Travelers from all over the world are joining the ranks of those who
think of tourism as an interactive experience involving living in harmony
with the environment and enjoying its natural resources in an ecological
sense: bird-watching, enjoying the beauties of land and sea, spotting
insects, animals, trees and flowers, and learning what every corner of the
globe has to add to the sum of human knowledge. With its 378 kilometers of
shoreline, Yucatan is an exceptional place to enjoy eco-tourism; an
immense biological richness is contained in these coastal zones, many of
them declared “Biosphere Reserves and Wetlands of International
Importance” by both UNESCO and the Mexican government. Scientists estimate
that there are over 500 species of mammals and 336 types of birds here,
including residents, migrants and species in danger of extinction.
